Overview

Overview

Learning from one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, where forests, farms, and coastlines are deeply intertwined. Sabah invites us to explore how communities are stewarding nature while building livelihoods for the future.
Learning from one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, where forests, farms, and coastlines are deeply intertwined. Sabah invites us to explore how communities are stewarding nature while building livelihoods for the future.

The Experience

Sabah is not a single story—it’s a constellation of efforts happening in parallel, often quietly, often collaboratively. Our conversations so far point to a few threads we’re especially curious about:

  • Indigenous-led food systems: Including efforts to revitalise traditional rice varieties and protect seed sovereignty.

  • Forest-based livelihoods: Community partnerships around wild-harvest products like swiftlet nests, balancing income generation with ecological care.

  • Regenerative practices in complex landscapes: Work done alongside smallholder farmers to introduce regenerative practices within palm oil supply chains.

  • Coastal and marine solutions: Seaweed farming supports coastal communities while absorbing carbon and feeding into regenerative aquaculture and animal feed systems.
